WHen looking back on other students posts, I really enjoyed learning about differnt usages of word and power point that I didn't think of. Some one posted about using word to create calendars for elementary school students and allowing the students to make thier own. I too think this could be a great idea for them becasue each of them would be personal. I also think that it would be really cool to have a calendar month for each student or two. I also liked how people talked about smart boards. I have never used a smart board and I am very interested to learn how to use them because they seem very useful for all ages.
I would really like to leanr more about excel or how to use a smart board. I have very well educated about word and power point but when it comes to excel I just fail. It seems very complicated to me and when it comes to formula I just fall apart becasue I am horrible at math and trying to count cells and merging things together seems like it is more work than it needs to be. I would rather use word to make my own table. I would also like to learn about smart boards. I see them in the classrooms more but I have never used one personally myself. THey seem like a great tool for everyone to use and it makes learning more exciting.
I think when it comes to excel I may go and talk to my dad becaseu he is a master at that program. I have learned that it takes patients nad mempory to remember where everything is. I also know that if I ever need quick help I can google my answer. I would also probably talk to teacher who have been teaching for awhile and ask them how they use the programs and I can maybe find ideas from them. The best way to find an answer is ask someone who knows it.

I think as a teacher I owuld use a web site called edline. I used it in highschool and it is the same as blackboard. I believe that having one spot where parents and students can communicate with the teacher, see grades, assignments, homework, and be able to turn things in. Would be a great web tool.
I really enjoyed the fact that blackboard allowed me to talk to my teacher and turn things in online. With edline, parents would be able to access it on their own profile and be able to see everything that the week is scheduled for. This would allow parents to see their child's grades at any point so they know that they are not lying to them. It would also allow students to see the homework that is due the next day if they forgot to write it down in thier planner. I would also post links to help websites to give extra information on the subject we are learning. you can find the website by going to www.edline.com.

I really like all the programs that Microsoft office has to offer. As a teacher we can utilize powerpoint, word, and excel in so many different ways. Excel is also a great tool to keep track of budgets for the classroom and maybe a school club. I can't wait to learn more about Excel so I can be an expert at it.

Post Eight
My last powerpoint was a jeoporady game. I used different school subjects to ask trivia question. I think this would be a good idea if there was a chance for extra credit in any class. It opens up the feild to everyone since most kids have one strong subject area. I would also use jeoporady in an English class. It would be easy to review for a test and you could ask question that hard and easy.
I would use audio technology to maybe listen to some read shakspeare in class. It is also helpful to use the white board to write out idea. Instead of printing out a handout of note every class I could write things out on the board and the studetns would have the responsibilty of making there own notes.
I never knew how to make a jeopoardy game on power point. I had always used in class and really enjoyed it but I never known how to make one. I really enjoyed learning how to make one and I think that it could be a great asset in the classroom. It is easy to use the jeopardy game to get kids involved and excited to learn. Most kids don't like that they have to sit andd take notes all day so when they play a game it make them more willing to sit through class and pay attention. Plus most students like a competition with each other esepecailly if there a good prize like, a home work pass, five pointso n a test, or even food. Using presentation software like power point has many advantages and disadvantages. i believe powerpoints are better used in grades 9-12. Most high schoolers are not interested in coming to school and they don't want to do unneccesary work like foldables. They would rather have notes on a powerpoints so they can write them all down. Also if a teacher ahs a lot of material to cover then the power points can get very long and the classroom is not interactive.
When using a powerpoint to inform students about new material I would pick one subject. For nineth graders I owuld talk about Shakespeare. I would begin talking aobut his childhood and how his past made him who he was. I would then have a picture of them and maybe offer extra credit for a student to dress up like him. Then I would continue to talk about Shakespeare and his greatest works and then show a clip from a movie or a docementry.
Educational technology is always changing. Every year a new product comes out or something gets updated. Our kids are also learning this new technology at rapid speed. It is weird to think about writing a paper by hand and not on the computer. I am also interested in learning about the smart board. In twentyy years there will be no white boards but only smart boards. I am really excited to learn how to use it.

I think iusing the web is great for all ages. Everyday the internet becomes more popular and a younger group learns how to use it. For K-5, I woul use the internet to help them review problem in math and reading. Also it can be a great tool to learn how to do science experiments. 6-12 I would have them use the internet to keep a journal, do homework online, or look up things while doing a research paper. THe only thing i would watch out for is to make sure that my students were not only using the internet to find information. I would remind them of books and the encyclopedia.
When ever I do a research paper I am told by my teachers not to use wikipedia for anyone can go on it and change words around. I do however find it helpful if you want to learn about things. If it comes to a reseach paper then I would have students not use wikipedia but the sources it list where wikipedia found the information. The students can then go there and find what they are really looking for.
I am not exactly a big fan of the wikipage that we created with our groups but I can see where it can come in hand. It's a place where a group of students who are working on a project can keep all their information and then go back to it later and add more too it. Also when we did the web hunt, I found the google is a good tool to use to find information. I would like to learn how to really excell at google by learning when and when not to put and, but, not, and such.

I believe the internet can be a very useful tool when it comes to research. The internet opens opurtunity to find things that you never would have found with out the internet. I do beleive though that we sometimes forget to use books and encyclopedia's when we have to research something. I remember moaning when my teacher would tell me to use three book sources. The internet can be an excellent place to find information but you can never find the same information in a book.
Certain web sources can actually help students support their learning. There are web sources that can help students review subjects such as math, science, and history. There are interactive stories that can help kids wehn they are reading. I also like to use the web to find out what happened in the past on certain dates. I had a teacher that hada board and everyday she would write out what happened on that date. I think that is a really good way to let students learn an interesting fact.

I would probably like to teach high school students and usually high school students know more about computers than teachers. I think that incorporating technology in schools is very important. I would use power point, movie maker, story boards, outlines, and other programs. I believe that when you use a variety of programs to teach kids they can learn differently and it keeps things fresh.
I would definitely in corporate outlines, idea maps, and storyboarding skills in my classroom. I will either be teaching English or elementary so in both cases it will be good to use maps. I remember using spider maps a lot when I was younger and we were first learning how to write detailed essays. I think it is a great idea.
I have never heard of the program Inspiration before but now I am happy that I have. It was so easy to use and it made life a lot simpler and neater than writing everything out by hand. I think it would also be a good tool for students to use if they wanted to make a family tree or brain storming. I really enjoyed last week’s new skill because it was something that I have never used before.

I would create a lesson plan for high school students in an english class. I would present the assignment using a word document and I would project it on the board. The assignment would consist of students making a powerpoint of a topic that they choose. For extra credit I would allow them to really expand their technology abilities by creating a movie of some sorts.
The website I chose to critque was www.ffcc.org. I believe that it follows all of the criteria when it comes to the rules of websites. It contains cosistently with the color scheme from page to page. It also is easy to navigate throughout the site. It is not too busy with the content and the pictures. I do not have a problem with this site and I find it very easy to use.

Every year my teacher talks about how to coreectly document sources in our papers without plagerising. I use MS word quite often as a student. I am constantly using it to write papers. I also use it to form lists, calenders, posters, and invitations. It is easy for my teacher to read my papers since they are typed. My teachers use it to type and print something out all the time. Or they will project their outline of the material using MS word. THey even create newsletters using word.
Word allows anyone to manipulate words. You can change the font, color, size, style. Teachers also use it to make newsletters and to make information easier to read for students. Also teachers can create a mail merge with word. THis would allow them to send out an e-mail to all of their students but be personally named for them.
I think all the skills will be useful for when I become a teacher. I really like the idea of mail merging. Also it was nice to learn how to create a newletter without using a predesigned template. Format painter was also a good tool to learn for when I need words to be the same font and color. I knew most of the stuff we had already learned but it was a nice refreaher to go over it again.

I believe that computers are very important in education. Every couple of years new technology is formed and it is up to the schools to keep up with the technology to best benefit students and teachers. Computers are the latest technology and it has so many things that it can provide. Being able to have powerpoint, word, publisher, excel, and paint all on one thing makes life really easy. Using a computer allows students to access the internet and pull information. type up their report on word, and then present the information on a powerpoint. Computers also allow students to have tutorials and feedback. Introducing new technology to students gives them a new way to learn.
In my classroom I will use a lot of power points. They are an easy way to distribute quick information and also let it be entertaining. I will also use computers to type up test and homework. Hello Everyone! My name is Bre. I am an elementary major. I still don't know what grade I want to teach or if I want to be in elementary. I am still deciding between English and Elementary. I am from Tampa, Florida and a freshman here at FSU. One interesting fact about me is that I have never had a headache. The closest thing I have had to a headache is a head rush from getting up to fast.
I am quite excited to learn all the different ways to use applications to further help my teaching career. Also to learn a very simple way to create a lesson plan. I also would like to learn more about Excel and how to embed videos on to PowerPoint successfully. Publisher would also be a nice tool to know how to use.
My prior experience with technology is just from using the basic applications during high school. I have learned how to use Word and PowerPoint on my own and I am just now learning about Excel. Excel is a little difficult for me to be able to figure out on my own. I am trying to use it to lay out all my homework that I need to do over this semester.
